2019 Volvo V90 Specs, Release Dates, Prices

The 2019 Volvo V90 is a 5-door, 5-seat large premium estate with a sporty, Scandinavian design. It is built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s advanced modular product platform that underpins all the Volvo 90 and 60 Series.

Building on Volvo Cars’ heritage in the estate segment, that began over 60 years ago with the Volvo Duett, the 2019 Volvo V90 takes the premium estate a clear step forward in terms of aesthetics, materials and finish, while living up to the ultimately practical nature of estate cars.

Like its siblings XC90 and S90, the V90 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. Key features include the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlight design, the new grille and Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.
In the cabin, Volvo has taken cues from the clean, Scandinavian interior design of its XC90 model and raised the bar with new details on the dashboard and instrument panel, including new air blades that stand vertically on each side of the Sensus user interface.

The 2019 Volvo V90 offers two different engine. The T5 powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and can be paired with either front- or all-wheel drive. The whole shebang is good enough to let a V90 return an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 27 combined. The T6 are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s both turbocharged and supercharged. It produces maximum power of 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the T5, the T6 comes standard with all-wheel drive. The extra power and two additional driven wheels don’t help gas mileage, which drops to 21/31/25 mpg.

The advanced Geartronic transmission features 8-speed, automatic shifting that ensures a smooth experience on different road surfaces and optimal fuel efficiency. If you prefer to have full control of a vehicle’s gear shifting, you can switch to manual transmission mode for a more dynamic driving experience.

The 2019 Volvo V90 is a wagon designed to tackle a variety of driving and road conditions. To tailor its handling to road conditions and your driving style, Volvo provides a Drive Mode setting that includes Comfort, Off-Road, Eco, Individual, and Dynamic. Each mode sets the way the Volvo V90’s suspension, transmission, and engine respond as you drive.

All new Volvos are now connected, thanks to Volvo’s connectivity and infotainment system called Sensus. It delivers an intuitive touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment applications such as Spotify, Pandora, Baidu or TuneIn. The portrait-oriented touch screen enables easy and fast access to a host of functions and features. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available.

Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the 2019 V90. The SPA platform has resulted in the strongest Volvo cars to date because of extensive use of boron steel, as well as numerous safety systems designed to protect people inside and outside the car.

Volvo City Safety technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic braking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep you safe. City Safety is the only system on the market that detects pedestrians, cyclists and large animals such as moose and deer.

Pilot Assist is designed to provide collaborative, intelligent and directable assistance while the driver maintains control at all times. Pilot Assist reduces driver strain in tedious driving situations and increases safety margins. The system delivers enhanced speed and distance keeping and a more consistent and precise position in lane. When activated, the system also has a positive effect if a conflict is about to happen — the performance in emergency steering and braking is improved. Pilot Assist works at speeds up to 130km/h and is particularly useful in highway conditions, helping to reduce the effort required when driving at higher speeds.

The 2019 Volvo V90 is available in two trim: R-Design and Inscription, which are equipped to nearly the same level and differ in interior materials, seat designs and colors only.

Standard equipment for the R-Design include 19-inch wheels, roof rails, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights and foglights, a hands-free liftgate, keyless entry, push-button ignition, four-zone climate control, a cabin air cleaner, power-adjustable front seats, a configurable gauge cluster display, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Also standard is active driver aids such as blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping assist.

The Inscription trim adds heated and ventilated front seats. The R-Design features a unique sport suspension calibration and comes standard with paddle shifters and sport front seats.
The optional Advanced package adds adaptive LED headlights, high-pressure headlight washers, a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, and an automated parallel or perpendicular parking system.
