Engine Specs

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma offers two powertrain option. The base is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. It paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 278 hp and 265 pound-feet of torque. You have a choice between a 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission. Power from both engines can be routed to the rear wheels (2WD) or part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) with a low-range transfer case.

On testing, the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Crew Cab 4×4 accelerated to 60 mph in 7.7-second, which is fair for its intended mission, but not class-leading. One of the best attributes of the Tacoma is towing capacity. A 4×2 V6 Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds. The TRD Off-Road 4×4 can tow 6,400 pounds. Both are solid numbers for a midsize truck.
