The 2019 Toyota Sequoia is a large, rugged, three-row SUV that can carry up to eight passengers. Unlike a sedan-based crossover SUV, the Sequoia is an old-school sport-utility vehicle. It uses a truck-like body-on-frame chassis that is intended more for off-roading and towing. It includes a thirsty V8 engine and Toyota suite of active driver-assistance systems. However, there is no denying that Sequoia is getting outdated, especially against redesigned rivals such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. The 2019 Toyota Sequoia can certainly carry the kids to play soccer, but the real desire is to be in a wild environment or towing a recreational gear.
The 2019 Toyota Sequoia SUV is offered in SR5, TRD Sport, Limited and Platinum trim with seating for seven or eight. The base SR5 trim includes 18-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, bright LED headlights, moonroof, 8-way driver and 4-way front passenger seats and tri-zone climate control. The infotainment system is a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, USB port and AM/FM/HD Radio/CD player.
The Sequoia also features with blind-spot monitoring and the Toyota Safety Sense system that bundles adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection. The TRD Sport model adds 20-inch wheels, sport-tuned Bilstein shocks, unique interior and exterior aesthetics.
Powering every 2019 Toyota Sequoia is a 5.7-liter V8 engine good for 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. Though not the most powerful in its class, it is a true workhorse and enough to get this big SUV up to speed at a decent clip. All Sequoia models come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission and two-wheel drive, with a four-wheel drive system optional. In track testing, the 2019 Toyota Sequoia Platinum 4WD went from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. That’s almost 1 second slower than the Nissan Armada 4WD but still compete well with other rivals. Towing capacity is up to 7,400 pounds, again, that towing figure isn’t the best, but it should serve the majority of needs.
