Prominent among the changes, the 2019 Porsche Macan features a new three-dimensional LED light panel at the rear, standard LED headlights, and a revamped interior design. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) is still available as an option, offering improved lighting while cornering. The taillights, which were separate on prior Macan models, now connect in a similar fashion to other Porsche models, first seen on the 911 and now the Cayenne and Panamera. In addition to the revised exterior design, buyer can now select a variety of new paint color options: Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Miami Blue, and Chalk.
Starting with the 2019 model year, the Macan benefits from a larger, 10.9-inch full HD touch screen with the latest version of Porsche Communication Management (PCM). As in the Panamera and Cayenne models, users can customize the interface by positioning movable tiles and choosing their respective functions from a list of options.
Fully connected as standard, the new system features online navigation, Porsche Connect Plus (with LTE phone module and SIM card reader), a WLAN hotspot, and an array of Porsche Connect services. Up-to-date online navigation data is available via a connection to HERE Cloud for route calculation.
The 2019 Porsche Macan also gains the new Traffic Jam Assist function as a component of the optional adaptive cruise control system. When so equipped, the Macan can accelerate, brake, and keep itself within a marked lane at speeds up to 40 mph. The Porsche Connect app and Porsche Car Connect app enables the driver to communicate with the Macan via their smartphone. New for the 2019 Porsche Macan, the Offroad Precision app can be used to improve and even record off-road experiences in the Macan.
The 2019 Porsche Macan combines pronounced sports car genes with well-rounded characteristics. This combination is typical for Porsche and has been extended with the facelift, providing the basis for the further-developed design language.
The front end of the new Macan appears wider due to revised side air intakes. The newly designed front lights also contribute to the wider look. They have moved from the edge of the air intake to the cooling air opening. The parking sensors in the lower front area also now integrate discreetly into the aerodynamically optimized air blades. The Macan also offers newly designed alloy wheels. In addition, the side blades are also now available in Brilliant Silver or High-Gloss Black.
The comprehensively revamped rear end connects the two tail light clusters with each other. The three-dimensional “PORSCHE” logo is positioned on the light panel. The brake lights now feature a four-point design, further reflecting Porsche brand identity. The tailpipes of the exhaust system are integrated in the rear fascia and round off the rear end.
The 2019 Porsche Macan comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. In combination with its seven-gear PDK dual-clutch gearbox, the compact SUV can spring from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, or 6.1 seconds with Launch Control if equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package, which migrates to an updated design for this model year. The new model can accelerate to a top track speed of 142 mph.
For the Macan S, Porsche bring a newly developed turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 delivering 348 hp (260 kW) from 5,400 to 6,400 RPM and 354 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,340 and 4,800 RPM. It features a single turbocharger located in the inner V. The short exhaust gas paths between the combustion chambers and the turbocharger ensure outstanding and immediate responsiveness, providing peak torque earlier in the rev range than the engine in the previous Macan S. With twin-scroll technology, the exhaust gas flows feed into the turbine wheel continuously as separate streams. This significantly reduces any charge cycle disadvantages. Combustion chamber geometry is further refined in the new Macan with centrally located injectors. Both cylinder heads also have integrated exhaust manifolds. In addition to reducing weight and using fewer components, this design allows the exhaust manifold to be integrated into the cooling circuit, which increases efficiency at high loads.
Responsive power development is one of the main characteristics of the 2019 Macan S. Porsche also adapted the seven-speed PDK to exploit the full potential of the new engine. In Sport mode, the transmission is now even more responsive and allows very fast shifts. In Normal mode, the PDK shifts to higher gears sooner than in Sport mode to save fuel and promote comfort. In combination with adaptive cruise control (ACC), the modified PDK now also offers a coasting mode, which additionally reduces fuel consumption in real driving conditions. The optimized Auto Start Stop function also makes a further contribution to increased efficiency. This function now turns off the engine when coasting to a stop at a traffic light. The Auto Start Stop function deactivated automatically in Sport and Sport Plus driving modes.
The new 10.9-inch full-HD Porsche Communication Management touchscreen display blends into the redesigned center console. It has been possible to reduce the number of buttons in the display area thanks to the new interface. The air vents have been upgraded with metal trim elements and are now integrated horizontally in the center console under the new PCM. This makes the dashboard appear wider and flatter.
The 2019 Porsche Macan already offers especially high-quality equipment as standard: the seat centers are covered with Alcantara and the seat bolsters with high-quality leatherette, for example. The steering wheel, selector lever and armrests are finished in leather. Additional full-leather interiors in various colors are also optionally available. Further personalization of the leather interiors is possible through the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Additionally, the Macan is now available with a GT Sport steering wheel, an option familiar to the 911. This wheel is wrapped in Alcantara and has a smaller diameter (360 mm) as compared to the standard steering wheel.
Every Macan leaves the factory equipped with a particle/pollen filter with anti-allergen coating. The optional ionizer also improves cabin air quality. The ionizer is controlled by a button on the center console.
TRIM LEVELS & PRICING
The 2019 Porsche Macan is a five-seat small luxury SUV available in two trim levels: base and S. Other variants, such as the Turbo and the GTS, are expected to arrive later in the 2020 model year.
The base model comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, 18-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a lane departure warning system, a power liftgate, LED headlights, automatic wipers, rear privacy glass, three-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, partial leather and simulated-suede upholstery, a 40/20/40-split folding rear seat and a cargo cover.
Tech features include the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with a larger 10.9-inch touchscreen interface, improved voice recognition software, internet radio and web-based navigation. Carryover features include Bluetooth, four USB ports, and a 10-speaker sound system with satellite and HD radio.
The 2019 Porsche Macan S is equipped similarly but has a more powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, 19-inch wheels, more powerful brakes, different exterior trim types, and dual twin-pipe exhaust ports.
Options for both trims are bundled in packages and as stand-alone features. The Premium package adds adaptive headlights, auto-dimming rearview and side mirrors, heated seats, Apple CarPlay, and a Bose surround-sound audio system. The Premium Package Plus adds a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, and upgraded front seats with ventilation and memory settings. The Sport Chrono package adds an analog stopwatch, launch control, and driver-selectable modes that optimize suspension and transmission settings.
Stand-alone options include an adaptive air suspension, adaptive sport seats, an electronically locking rear differential, a premium Burmester audio system, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
The 2019 Porsche Macan is expected at U.S. dealers by summer 2019. Built at the Porsche factory in Leipzig, Germany, the compact SUV is available in the United States with a starting MSRP of $49,900 excluding $1,050 for delivery, handling and processing.
