2019 Lexus RX 450h Review, Release Dates, Prices

This is a year without change for the 2019 Lexus RX 450h, which continues to compete strongly in the midsize luxury SUV segment. Two models remain available: five passengers and 3-row seven passengers. There is also an F Sport version that offers a sportier look and a more aggressive driving experience. In addition to a sport-tuned suspension, the F Sport models get larger wheels and tires, a black headliner, a bold mesh grille, electronic gauges with additional instrumentation and sport seats. Regardless of the model, all 2019 Lexus RX 450h offer a smooth ride, quiet interior, and proven reliability. The RX also leads its class with its high resale value.

The 2019 Lexus RX 450h is a five-passenger crossover SUV available in base and F Sport versions. The three-row 450hL is available in base and Luxury versions. The RX 350 is reviewed separately.

The base RX 450h is well-equipped. It’s come standard with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, 10 airbags, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a faux-leather interior, a rearview camera, a power-adjustable steering wheel and a HomeLink garage-door opener. Standard infotainment includes an 8-inch display screen, Bluetooth, USB port, Micro SD card slot, Siri Eyes Free for iPhones, 9-speaker audio with and auxiliary input. Also standard on every 2019 Lexus RX 450h is the Lexus Safety System+, which includes auto high beams, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure alert and more. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain unavailable.

Engine Specs

Every 2019 Lexus RX 450h is all-wheel drive and powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine and three electric motor generators. Together they produce a total output of 308 horsepower and routed through an electronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The RX hybrid does not need to be plugged in, but premium gasoline is recommended. This is the most efficient dan class-leading fuel economy vehicle in the segment. With an EPA-estimated driving range of 516 miles and returns 31 mpg in the city. On track testing, the 2019 Lexus RX 450h F Sport AWD sprinted to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, which is a bit slow for the segment. Towing capacity is up to 3,500 pounds.

Pricing Notes

The 2019 Lexus RX 450h is on sale and arriving now at dealers nationwide. It has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) start at around $47,000. The 450h F Sport starts at about $52,500. The 3-row Lexus RX 450hL hybrid starts at nearly $52,000.
