2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport Specs, Release Dates, Prices

Combining British luxury with a capable off-road capability, the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport is an alternative for buyers on a budget. As Land Rover most affordable model, the Discovery Sport is less expensive than rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5, and its advanced all-wheel-drive system makes it far more tough than its car-based rivals. Unlike the Lexus NX and BMW X3, the Discovery Sport offers a small but functional 3-row seat option. However, the safety system standards for most competitors are still optional on the Discovery Sport. Backed by a choice of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the Discovery Sport remains powerful and efficient at the same times.

The 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport is available in four trims levels: SE, Landmark Edition, HSE and HSE Luxury. As you expected, the 2019 Discovery Sport SE is nicely equipped. All-wheel drive is standard, along with Hill Descent Control, Terrain Response System, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, partial leather seating, USB media and charging port. An 8-inch touchscreen and 10-speaker audio/infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity is also standard. If you want a panoramic sunroof and full leather seating, you’ll have to move up to the HSE trim.

Engine Specs

Under the hood, the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for 237 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful version of the engine is available on the HSE and HSE Luxury trims and is rated to make 286 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard.

Surprisingly, both engines get almost the same EPA fuel economy, although acceleration times vary by nearly a full second. In track testing, the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE Luxury with upgrade engine went to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Properly equipped, the Discovery Sport can tow up to 4,409 pounds.

The 2019 Discovery Sport also features Land Rover well-proven Terrain Response system. The technology has four preprogrammed settings (General, Sand, Mud/Ruts and Grass/Gravel/Snow) that adjust gas pedal and steering response, gear selection, center differential engagement and braking/stability control systems to optimize performance in a variety of difficult driving scenarios.
