The 2019 Kia Rio enters its second model year as a carryover, having been completely redesigned for 2018. Kia award-winning subcompact continues to raise the bar and redefine the category by offering an even higher value proposition with an exciting combination of refinement, clever packaging, smart technology and fuel efficiency. In addition, the Rio 5-door does not disappoint when it comes to cargo room, offering 17.4 cubic feet of space. When the rear seats are folded down, that increases to a voluminous 32.8 cubic feet, with a low and flat cargo floor to accommodate luggage, small furniture or weekend gear. For 2019, Kia Rio 4-door model will offer in LX and S trim levels, while the the Rio 5-door available in S trim only.
The 2019 Kia Rio is powered by a carryover but enhanced Gamma 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder engine with improved fuel efficiency (as described below), better responsiveness and low-speed driving dynamics. The main features of this unit are a high-pressure fuel system with direct injection, variable intake system, low-friction oil seals, and piston cooling-jets. The well-engineered powerplant also utilizes an aluminum valve cover and block for reduced weight, while incorporating cast iron linings meant for increased durability.
Power is channeled to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Output is a spirited 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque for a more engaging driving experience. The engine enhancements help improve the 2019 Kia Rio fuel economy to 29 city/37 highway/32 combined. Besting the previous generation by 1 MPG city/1 MPG highway/2 MPG combined.
