The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is a comfortable and competent choice in the compact car class. Competing with the best models such as the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, the Cruze match most rivals in features. Apart from being offered as sedan or hatchback, the Cruze offers something that separates itself in class: a diesel engine that returns up to 48 mpg. The 2019 Chevy Cruze does not have the Mazda 3 or Honda Civic fun-to-drive nature, but it offers luxury, enhanced ride more like a midsize car. If you want a small sedan or hatchback with comfortable ride quality from a midsize car, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze is worth a try. And if you want a compact car with a diesel engine, this is the only choice.
Under the hood, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze comes standard with a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain produces less horsepower 137, but a lot more torque 240 lb-ft. That combination popping fuel economy of up to 48 mpg highway.
The Cruze no longer offers a manual transmission, either for gasoline or diesel engines. Instead, it comes standard with a 6-speed automatic, while the diesel uses a 9-speed automatic. All models are front-wheel drive. In order to save fuel, every 2019 Chevrolet Cruze models feature an engine-idle start/stop system that cuts engine power at stoplights. For 2019, Chevy has given drivers the ability to disable this features. In track testing, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel hatchback went to 60 mph from zero in 8.2 seconds. The gasoline-powered Cruze did it in 7.6 seconds.
