Competition in the small luxury SUV segment is getting hotter when Cadillac enters the game with the 2019 Cadillac XT4. Smaller than the XT5 and prices starting under $36,000, the XT4 stands between compact SUVs such as the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, and subcompacts like the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.
Offered in luxury and sports versions, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 has a refreshingly simple setup: a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a 9-speed automatic transmission, and a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Interior and exterior details make it easy to distinguish between Lux and Sport style, but the difference is smooth.
Every 2019 Cadillac XT4 is well-equipped. Even the base Luxury model has 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and aluminum trim, LED headlights and taillights, rear park assist, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats and leatherette trim. For entertainment, there is Cadillac’s User Experience infotainment system with the new rotary controller knob and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.
Step up to the XT4 Premium Luxury and XT4 Sport the value-for-dollar deals get made. It adds safety features such as rear cross-traffic alert, front/rear park assist, lane-change and blind-spot monitoring with seat alerts. The top XT4s also get a power liftgate, roof rails, and ambient lighting. Exclusive to Premium Luxury models is an illuminated door handles, wood or aluminum trim choices, and leather seating. On the other hand, the XT4 Sport comes with LED cornering lamps, body-color door handles, carbon-fiber or wood trim, a sport steering wheel and pedals.
Under the hood, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine has become the standard choice among small luxury SUVs. Every 2019 Cadillac XT4 uses a twin-scroll turbo and variable-lift camshaft mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission with a very short 1st gear for good parking drivability and a tall 9th gear to achieve better fuel economy numbers.
