Redesigned last year, the Audi Q5 enters its second generation with additional power, more efficiency, a tailored new suit and even smarter. These are all improvements to the recipe that has worked well for Audi compact luxury SUV that was introduced in 2009, which later became the German brand best-selling model. Along with its sibling the SQ5, the 2019 Audi Q5 boasts better handling and improved performance capabilities all around. Together, they make an interesting case in a booming segment filled with strong competitors such as the Acura RDX, BMW X3, and Jaguar F-Pace. Even against its rivals, the 2019 Audi Q5 stands out with a combination of performance, capability, comfort and an excellent list of standard safety features.
The 2019 Audi Q5 is available in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels. For a luxury crossover SUV, the base Premium is nicely equipped, with standard features such as tri-zone climate control, heated front seats, a leather interior plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Premium Plus includes MMI Navigation and rear USB ports, while the rich Prestige gets S-level exterior enhancements.
Furthermore, all 2019 Audi Q5 comes with Pre Sense Basic. A system that can determine if a frontal impact is imminent, it will close the sunroof and side windows, tighten the seatbelts and apply the brakes for quicker response. A head-up display and Park Assist is now standard on the Prestige.
The 2019 Audi Q5 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission sent that power to all four wheels via a standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system. This sophisticated system improves fuel efficiency by powering the front wheels most of the time, and will shift 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels as needed. You won’t notice it working, but you will feel the added security, especially in wet conditions.
In acceleration testing, the 2019 Audi Q5 hit 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is no slouch but it is marginally slower than some of its rivals.
