The 2019 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is about as genuine as it gets for modern sports cars. The point is this is a car that focuses on performance, basically a toy track that is legal on the streets. Forget about features like heated seats or Apple CarPlay, this lightweight Italian exotic convertible doesn’t even have power steering. If you are looking for a civilian performance car, you should choose the Audi TT or Porsche Boxster. But if you have almost $70,000 to spend on a head-turning, exclusive and exceptionally nimble sports car, the Alfa 4C Spider fit the price.
Since it’s built for performance and racing, the 2019 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider only contains basic equipment. It includes power auto-down windows, a 7-inch color gauge-cluster display, air conditioning, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a 4-speaker Alpine AM/FM/CD audio system with USB input. Also standard this year is rear parking sensors, cruise control and a rearview camera. The 4C uses its DNA selector to choose from four different driving modes, which vary the aggressiveness of the throttle, stability control and transmission. Safety features include front airbags, a drivers knee airbag, door-mounted side airbags along with traction control, stability control, and hill-start assist.
The 2019 Alfa 4C Spider is powered by mid-mounted, 1.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. While you can find more powerful sedans in Alfa family, the 4C Spider 2,487-pound weight allows an impressive 10.4 power-to-weight ratio. Sending power to the rear wheels is a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually via paddle shifters. In track testing, the 2019 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider can reach 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, but you’ll have to get past the short turbo lag before you really feel the power kick in. Even with its downshift rev-matching technology, this transmission just isn’t as fun as the manual. Top speed of 155 mph.
