In a major blow to its reputation for outstanding build quality, Porsche has issued a recall on all 11,324 of its Panamera models over a suspected fault with its seatbelt tensioners.
American road safety watchdog the NHTSA discovered that when the front seats moved all the way forward, then there is the possibilty that the locking mechanism on the seat belts will fail in a crash.
A statement issused by the NHTSA stated that in an accident the belts “may not provide adequate protection for the seat occupant, which may increase the risk of injury or death.”
Porsche will be providing an additional safety element to the seat belts at no cost to the owner at Porsche Service Centres. The German manufacturer stated in a statement that the recall was only “a preventative measure” and called the necessary repair “minor”.
