Gordon Murray’s quest to reinvent the automobile continues! We’ve already seen the petrol-powered T.25, with its flexible three-seater layout, and now full details on an all-electric version, called the T.27, have been revealed.
Billed as ‘the world’s most efficient electric vehicle’ the T.27 uses an innovative, lightweight and fully integrated electric motor, control system and battery to achieve maximum efficiency. Projected CO2 emissions, based on the UK energy mix, are 48g/km on the combined cycle – plus lifecycle CO2 emissions are calculated to be 42 per cent less than the average car.
A 34bhp electric motor is driven by a lithium-ion battery pack located under the floorplan – enough to to propel the 680kg automobile from 0-62mph in less than 15 seconds and onto a top speed of 65mph. A range of 80 to 100 miles is possible on a single charge.
Thanks to a multi-million pound investment secured from the Government’s Technology Strategy Board, a running prototype is scheduled for completion in April 2011. The next phase for Gordon Murray Design is to secure partners and funding for UK manufacturing of the T.25 and T.27 – a move which could create 6,000 jobs in this country.
